Rules and regulations for riding Scooty

To keep everyone safe and ensure SCOOTY remains available in your community, please follow these rules and regulations.

Rider Requirements:
• You must be at least 16 years old
• One rider per vehicle only (no passengers)
• Riders under 18 must wear a helmet (law in Ontario)
• All riders should wear a helmet (strongly recommended)
• No driver's license required
• Maximum rider weight: 114 kg / 250 lbs
 
Where You Can Ride:
• Roads with speed limits of 50 km/h or below
• Bike lanes (even on faster roads)
• Multi-use paths and trails where permitted
• Cycle tracks
 
Where You Cannot Ride:
• Sidewalks
• 400-series highways
• Roads over 50 km/h without bike lanes
• Restricted zones (red on app map)
• Private property without permission
 
Speed Limits:
• Maximum: 20 km/h
• Slow-speed zones (yellow areas): 15 km/h
• Follow posted speed limits when they're lower
 
Riding Conduct:
• Follow all traffic laws and signals
• Yield to pedestrians
• Signal your turns (use turn signals or hand signals)
• Don't use your phone while riding
• Don't ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• Be courteous to others sharing the road or path
 
Parking Rules:
• Park only at Designated Parking Zones (blue "P")
• Don't block sidewalks, doorways, or accessibility ramps
• Place the vehicle upright on its kickstand
• Take a photo when ending your ride
 
Breaking these rules may result in:
• Additional fees or fines
• Account suspension
• Permanent ban from the SCOOTY platform
